Lochnagar Crater and the Battle of the Somme

The Battle of the Somme began on July 1, 1916, and lasted until November of the same year. It was one of the bloodiest battles in human history, with over one million casualties.

The Lochnagar Crater was created on July 1, 1916 at 7.28 a.m.

We will be standing at Lochnagar Crater precisely at 7.28 a.m. two minutes before the British offensive began on the first day of the Battle of the Somme to commemorate those who fought and died during the Battle.

Preparing for the Journey

Traveling to the Somme for such a significant event requires a lot of planning and preparation.

We have a busy schedule of performances and commemoration lined up for the week.

We are also working hard to learn a number of new tunes to play with various Pipe Bands over there. These include "The Battle of The Somme set" and a special tune written for the event : "The Lochnagar Crater"
