A
brief History of the St Andrews Pipe Band
The band was formed initially as 'The St Andrews Pipers' which consisted
of 5 pipers.
The
current band was created in the early part of 2006 to follow a vision of David Pickworth to create great pipe music for all, in a
fun and friendly way; not high pressure competition, but a band that could
produce a decent sound and that had fun!
An established
committee meets regularly and is presided over by Raymond R. Brown, whose fundraising
activities have allowed the band to purchase uniforms and embellishments and
whose support is invaluable.

Home of the Band
Home for practice on a Monday night
(1830 - 2100)
is the Priory Centre, an extension of 'The Priory Church of St Andrew the
Apostle', Hamble, which is a most splendid location and gives the band its name!
The choice of tartan is the Earl of St Andrew and the cap badge is the
official Armorial Bearings of the Royal and Ancient Burgh of St Andrews.

The Motto
has the meaning ‘While there is life
there is hope’ or more loosely, 'Never give up’. This has been a very
appropriate motto for the band over its formative years!
Currently the band
consists of approximately 20 members across a variety of ages ranging from 9
to 71, all of differing ability but none lacking the enthusiasm that
matches the vision and keeps them coming out each Monday to master their instruments
whilst having fun.
